Aransas Pass is the mainland gateway to Harbor Island and the Port Aransas ferry, set on Redfish Bay with the Conn Brown Harbor shrimping fleet at its center. The city lies mainly in San Patricio County, with portions reaching into Aransas and Nueces counties. As a public adjuster in Aransas Pass, TX, we help homeowners, landlords, and business owners with hurricane, wind, hail, and water damage claims. Corpus Christi Public Adjuster serves Aransas Pass from the Corpus Christi area; we do not keep a local office and we come to your property.
The housing stock includes older wood-frame homes, brick homes, manufactured homes, and a large number of RV resorts and seasonal properties, plus marine businesses, seafood processors, and retail along the highway corridors. Low-lying areas near the levee and harbor are exposed to storm tide, while the whole city sits in the path of tropical wind and spring thunderstorms.
Hurricanes and Aransas Pass
HURDAT places Hurricane Celia's Category 4 landfall on August 3, 1970 in the Port Aransas and Aransas Pass area, and the NWS Corpus Christi Celia page describes it as a Category 4 near Aransas Pass.
Hurricane Harvey in August 2017 brought major damage. NCEI's San Patricio County summary names Aransas Pass and Ingleside as the hardest hit areas, with widespread roof and tree damage. USGS survey data cited by NCEI showed a storm tide of about 4 feet from Ingleside On-the-Bay to Aransas Pass, with piers and docks destroyed, boats damaged in the Conn Brown Harbor, and major flooding in the low part of Aransas Pass next to the levee. In many Aransas Pass homes, Harvey damage came from both directions: wind through the roof and water at the floor.
Tropical Storm Harold in August 2023 brought tropical storm force gusts across the area, including a 50 mph gust at the C-MAN station near the Aransas Pass channel.
Downbursts and hail
Straight-line winds have caused repeated damage in Aransas Pass, and mobile homes and RVs show up often in the record:
- March 14, 2000: An NWS storm survey confirmed mobile homes damaged by a thunderstorm downburst, estimated at 75 mph.
- June 2, 2010: Straight-line winds up to 75 mph peeled part of a church roof, flipped a trailer, and snapped numerous large trees throughout the city.
- January 9, 2011: Ping pong ball size hail caused minor to major damage to numerous RVs at several RV resorts.
- 2025: NCEI lists quarter size (1-inch) hail on April 23, 2025 and 1.25-inch hail on November 1, 2025 in Aransas Pass.
Wind claims here often involve lifted shingles, damaged metal roofing and carports, skirting and tie-down issues on manufactured homes, and fallen trees. Our wind damage claims and hail damage claims pages explain how we document them.
TWIA, flood insurance, and CRS
San Patricio, Aransas, and Nueces counties are all in the TWIA designated catastrophe area. Many Aransas Pass owners therefore have separate policies for wind and hail (TWIA), for other perils (homeowners or commercial), and for flood (NFIP or private). TWIA covers wind and hail only, and TWIA claims generally must be filed within one year of the date of loss. For TWIA eligibility, work done on or after January 1, 1988, including re-roofs and roof repairs, needs a windstorm certificate of compliance. See TWIA claim help for details.
According to FEMA Community Status Book data (April 2025), Aransas Pass participates in the NFIP but not the Community Rating System. NFIP coverage generally starts 30 days after purchase, so flood coverage needs to be in place well before a storm. Homes near the levee and harbor should pay particular attention. Our article on water damage vs. flood damage explains why the cause of water matters so much to coverage.
Permit rules in Aransas Pass are set by the city; check with the city's building department before starting repairs.
Common claim issues in Aransas Pass
- Wind and water in the same home. Low-lying streets near the levee and harbor can see storm tide while the roof takes wind damage. TWIA pays for wind and hail; the flood policy pays for rising water. Each needs its own documentation.
- Manufactured homes. Damage to anchoring, tie-downs, skirting, and roofs is common after downbursts. Manufactured home policies differ from standard homeowners forms, so we read the specific policy.
- RVs and seasonal properties. RVs are often insured on separate RV or auto policies, and seasonal homes that sit empty may have vacancy conditions. Report damage promptly even if you are out of town.
- Salt air and metal. Metal roofs, carports, and fasteners corrode near the water. Insurers sometimes attribute storm damage to corrosion, so photos showing fresh tears, bends, and displaced panels help.
How we help
We inspect the property, document wind, hail, and water damage separately where needed, and prepare an itemized estimate. For harbor and highway businesses, we also look at business income and equipment coverages. If you have already received a denial or a low offer, see our pages on denied claims and claim supplements.
Fees are disclosed in a written contract before any work begins; Texas law caps public adjuster compensation at 10% of the insurance settlement. Corpus Christi Public Adjuster offers a Free Claim Review for Aransas Pass properties; you can also call or text +1 (832) 503-5866.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Aransas Pass covered by TWIA?
Aransas Pass lies mainly in San Patricio County, which is in the TWIA designated catastrophe area, so eligible properties can buy TWIA wind and hail coverage. TWIA does not cover flood. Check your declarations pages to see which policy covers wind and hail for your property.
Does Aransas Pass participate in the Community Rating System?
According to FEMA Community Status Book data (April 2025), Aransas Pass participates in the NFIP but not the Community Rating System. Confirm current status with FEMA or your flood agent.
My RV was damaged by hail at an RV park. Is that a property claim?
It depends on the policy. RVs are often insured under a separate auto or RV policy rather than a homeowners or TWIA policy, while a permanently placed manufactured home may have its own dwelling policy. We review the policy to see which coverage applies.
What if my business was damaged in the harbor area?
Commercial policies vary widely. Many separate building, business personal property, and business income coverage, and wind, hail, and flood may each fall under different policies. We review the full set of policies and help document both physical damage and income losses where coverage exists.
